HopZero®
The HopZero® range addresses typical sensory shortcomings of non-alcoholic, low-alcohol and low-carbohydrate beers. The individual products can be used on their own or combined, depending on the character of the base beer.
Use in: Non-alcoholic and low-alcohol beers
Key benefits
- made from wort or malt extracts
- dealcoholised by distillation or reverse osmosis
- made by controlled or arrested fermentation
- low-carbohydrate, or made with a reduced amount of malt
How to use
HopZero® is dosed into finished beer, ideally while transferring to the lagering or bright tank. It can also be added directly to the target tank before filling it. The product is fully soluble; when dosing into a filled tank, gentle but even mixing must be ensured. It is best to trial each variant separately first — only then should a combination addressing several shortcomings at once be prepared.
Manufacturer’s guideline dosing
The final dose for each variant must be set by a sensory trial, based on the production method and the character of the base beer.
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Typical dosing range (common to all variants) | 5–40 ml/hl beer |
| Recommended starting dose (first trial) | 10 ml/hl |
When to use HopZero®
- when the non-alcoholic beer is too sweet or wort-like
- when it tastes watery and has a short finish
- when it lacks a dry finish
- when it lacks fruity fermentation notes
- for a final sensory correction before packaging
Recommendation
Example: a non-alcoholic Lager tastes too sweet and also has a thin body. Separate lab samples are prepared first — HopZero® Clarity to reduce the wort-like sweetness and HopZero® Body to increase fullness and finish length; a dose of 10 ml/hl corresponds to roughly 33 µl of product per 330ml beer sample. After evaluating the separate samples, a combined trial is prepared — for a 100 hl production batch, a dose of 10 ml/hl equals 1 litre of the specific HopZero® variant. A full dose of multiple variants should not be used automatically without a prior sensory test.
Technical data: HopZero® TDS, manufactured by TNS – Totally Natural Solutions.
Variant: HopZero® Body
How to use
Increases fullness, roundness and finish length. Helps suppress a watery impression and adds light floral hop notes.
Variant: HopZero® Clarity
How to use
Reduces the sweet, wort-like character typical of some non-alcoholic beers and helps create a cleaner sensory profile.
Variant: HopZero® Dry
How to use
Adds a drier, lightly astringent finish that balances residual sweetness. Suited, for example, to non-alcoholic Lagers.
Variant: HopZero® Fruity
How to use
