A standardised extract of hulupones, formed by the natural oxidation of beta acids.

The stated values are the manufacturer's indicative recommendations. The actual result is affected by the beer's composition, pH, alcohol content, original bitterness, application point, mixing efficiency and the analytical method used. Every brewer should therefore set the final dose according to their own brewing sheet and confirm it with a sample trial.
HopBeta® Hulu 20%
A standardised extract of hulupones, formed by the natural oxidation of beta acids. Compared with regular iso-alpha acids, it provides a softer, more complex and easy-drinking bitterness. It helps reduce lightstruck flavour and also suits naturally-oriented recipes.
Use in: A gentler post-fermentation bitterness correction
How to use
HopBeta® Hulu 20% is added after fermentation to finished beer. It is recommended to first prepare several graded samples, choose the optimal sensory level, and only then convert the dose for the full tank.
Manufacturer’s guideline dosing
The manufacturer does not publish a single universal g/hl dose — the required amount is set according to the desired increase in BU, the current specification of the specific batch, and the result of a sensory trial.
When to use HopBeta® Hulu 20%
- a gentler bitterness correction for finished beer
- non-alcoholic and low-alcohol beers
- beers where regular iso-alpha acids would taste too sharp
- lambic, sour, saison and other flavour-complex styles
- products requiring a natural or "clean label" solution
Recommendation
Example: a beer measures 8 BU of bitterness after fermentation and the target is roughly 12 BU. Samples are trialled at doses corresponding to increases of 2, 3 and 4 BU. The chosen dose is then converted to the full tank volume per the product specification. Hulupones are also associated with beta-acid properties that may support microbial stability — the product should not, however, be presented as a substitute for hygiene, filtration or pasteurisation without the manufacturer's confirmation for the specific recipe.
